Good Day to You Everyone, it’s that time yet again. Time for another edition of Ra’s Roundup. We’re gonna just get right into it this month without an editor’s note because I have been so busy, haven’t had the time to contemplate and therefore I’m at a loss for words.
Here we go…
Personal Best
On Jan 28, 2024 I released a video essay on Sade’s “Soldier of Love” album. The video was met with a solid initial response but plays and likes stagnated after the first month. I really felt like this episode was one of my best and decided to overshare it on threads… Something must have worked; the video is now the most popular video on my channel surpassing 3,000 views.
Next project is getting my original music to pop off like this… which by the way… I released two new songs last month! My conversion of followers on IG to listeners on streaming is so low almost none of my followers go and listen to my music after I post about it… thank god I’m not a girl who worries about the numbers.
Loewe designer, Jonathan Anderson on our current era of work and designers having to wear many hats.
What do you mean by content?
Jonathan: Well, the book is one thing, but you then take a picture of the book and it becomes a different piece of content. Then you open up the poster that is the cover of the book and you put that on the wall and you have more content. In a way, printed material becomes much more than itself.
Do you see yourself as more of a content creator than a designer at Loewe?
Jonathan: You know, what you realize when you start a rebrand is that you can’t just be a designer, you have to do everything. Thinking you can just turn up and do the clothing simply isn’t possible anymore.
And you welcome that?
Jonathan: I do. It’s more tangible; it’s more about curating.

I think about this as an artist. I simply cannot just show up and make music or videos, I have to also think about the marketing and the business side and everything in between the initial concept and delivery to market.
House & Home
When will we stop calling it social media and just call it media? - Ra
Everyone has their own little channel and I think that’s very cute.
It reminds me of a mood board I’m working on called “off planet” it started with me imagining a more digital work landscape where 90% of work revolved around documenting your life at home and in nature. Supporting your livelihood though channel partnerships. Nike, Apple, Dr. Pepper, Spa’s and Salons, Baseball Teams etc…
This is happening more often these days, influencers continue to be influencers and some of them can go the distance. It’s not really a numbers game anymore; it seems more key to partner with brands your audience might actually want and find useful.
It even better if what you share is educational and less about entertainment in the typical sense. But ppl will settle for entertaining any day so do you.

Here in Rhode Island students at Brown University are packing up their encampments but round the nation the college protests rage on. The below image was sourced from Mood mail but its been going around quite a bit.
That’s the end of this month’s round up, come back next month for another one.
Big Love,
