Ra's Roundup #51
Revelations during Black History Month
Welcome back to another edition of Ra’s Roundup. This month I had written a fairly complete editor’s note and then decided to scrap it and start over. Something wasn’t sitting right with me, there was a lack of depth and passion and I don’t love a surface level piece and it really felt at odds with how I am feeling lately.
In this late winter stage we’re in, I am clinging to the shadows and the darkness. I just want to hold this space I’ve been in a little longer before spring breaks. The hibernation, and days off just sleeping has had me in a dream state more often where I’ve been encountering a spiritual side. In this realm I have been having dreams of my family members both living and passed. I’ve been honoring this in my woken state by reaching out to members of family that aren’t so close by keeping the connection we have alive.
There’s been an influx in my communication to and from friends as well. Overall, something awakened in me through my sleep. Some work was clearly done on me while I dreamt the days away this winter. I can’t seem to explain where else this energy may have come from because I often keep to myself. My guess is that the rest has instilled me with a more charged social battery, further fueled by a love for the people that matter to me.
If you’ve been needing a nudge to reach out to people more maybe this is it? Maybe take a long nap and then reach out to whoever crosses your mind with a kind message.
Anyway, I hope you all have been celebrating blackness during Black History Month and beyond. I sort of love how every year I see who really supports Blacks in February and who don’t. It’s a spectrum of characters, from the nonblack people who still think Black History Month is in January (b/c MLK day is in jan) to the Black person who celebrates Black History Month all year long, to the person who abbreviates Black History Month as BHM to me who feels like that erases the meaning of Black History Month. These revelations always signal to me who needs to be cut lol whether it’s brands who did no activations, campaigns or promotions or someone at an event who did something racist.

AI is having an impact on the workplace and lots of people in tech are losing their jobs as companies move to “flatten” their workforce and pair it with AI tools. This is just the tip of the iceberg and more shifts should be expected.
